About

Hi, I am Zhihong, a master's student in Sociology at the University of Oxford.

My research examines how social differences are organized through digital public communication — in fandom, gender politics, and political conflict. I am also interested in using emerging computational tools to simulate and represent these differences. This inquiry grows from a sustained interest in lived experiences across social positions.

Much of this curiosity comes from encountering people whose lives look nothing like mine, through fieldwork, volunteer counseling, and the ordinary surprise of discovering how differently others see the world.

Also, I am drawn to the contentious corners of digital life, where emotions run high and positions harden fast. These spaces reveal how digital communication shapes which differences come to define public debate and which remain invisible.

By the way, I really, really want to raise a Shiba Inu.
